CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
March was the last month in the Hunter’s Camp that the previous owner, Tim Palmer built in 1989. He originally wanted to build further up the hill and had cleared a spot where the Long House now stands but changed his mind and built where the present camp is. It is also the spot where we want to build our family home. So this past weekend we moved 60 feet up the hill to the long house. The moving actually started once we got back from our Everglades Adventure as I made it my goal to carry something up the hill everyday so all that was left this past weekend was the beds, the stove, which we put in the fireplace and the remnants of our stuff. Colleen organized while I hauled. We left the freezer and the batteries for later and have decided also to move up the stove as the camp stove does not burn clean enough.
I love living in the long house, it is not as warm as the smaller house but there is so much more space, and the decks and an outhouse in the mudroom. We sleep under windows now with a view of the stars and the moon. Yes it is a bit more of a walk up the hill but that will only make us stronger.
I have already started tearing apart the camp, i amusing the insulation to insulate the long house floor and got 1/8th of it done so far. Dirty work, who knew that mice had a designated bathroom space? I pulled out one chunk of insulation and a 5 gallon buckets worth of mouse poo poured out on the floor. This leaves most of the rest of the insulation poo free which is great! I hope to salvage the rafters and the roof and some of the joists. The rest will go up in a big bonfire in 3 weeks or so!
