A Night at the Opera
Colleen and I went to Stowe to see an opera, stopping beforehand for some pizza at American Flatbread in the home of the former Rusty Nail
The opera was horrible. Opera is an artform that predates microphones and speakers and the vocal technique was developed to project the voice in a large space and to be heard in a frequency range not occupied by any of theinstruments in an orchestra. It is a vocal athletic performance showcasing the acoustic abilities of the performers. At the small Spruce Peak Theater accompanied only by a piano while mostly just standing around the operetic performances were ludicrous and grating on the ears. The story would much better have been served as a play or a musical. An opera needs a large production with a full orchestra in a huge space to be appreciated. This one was not.
The set was cool though!
