The colors are out earlier this year due to the prolonged drought we are having which has made the colors even more vivid than in years past.
One Last Paddle Trip
We have had a cold September but this past weekend was warm and sunny so we tried to camp at the Waterbury Reservoir but 1000 people had the same idea and we paddled the whole thing looking for an empty campsite to no avail.
We did find a spot to camp at an undesignated campspot and set up only to have a ranger motor over and very politely tell us we could not camp there. Covid19 has driven so many people outdoors which is a good thing but it wipes out the access we take for granted as last minute trips are difficult to pull off.
We stayed till sunset, made a fire and roasted weaners and marshmallows and then had a sweet sunset paddle out

Our creek has dried up past the house. Never in the 10 years we have been here has it dried up so far. We can only fill half the water tank at a time but so far that is working out ok, we just fill it twice a week instead of once.
Tree House Update
Colleen finished re-painting the door and I hung it in the treehouse this weekend and once I get the gas lines in we will be ready to spend some frosty Winter nights out there.
What I’m listening to this week….
This past week I watched a Showtime documentary on the Go Go’s and learned many new things about them. For instance they came out of the LA Punk Scene and hit it big when they toured Europe with Madness and their single We Got the Beat took off. They got rid of their original drummer and bass player when they evolved from punk to pop. They were signed by Miles Copeland who managed the Police and when they opened for the Police in 1980 they got mage big with the hit Our Lips Our Sealed which written not by the Go Go’s but by a English bloke Jane Wedelin hooked up with while on tour in England.
They partied more than they made music, Charlotte Caffey the guitar player was a full blown heroin addict and they were on the rock n roll treadmill playing non stop and Vacation was rushed out to take advantage of all the hype. It basically sucked except for the single “Vacation” which was a cover of a song written and released by bassist Karen Valentine’s previous band.
The group was seriously dysfunctional and split into two factions, Caffey who wrote the songs and Belinda Carlise who sang them. They made more $$$ than the other 3 and this led to the groups break up after Jane Wedielin quit when management refused to give her more $$$ when she contributed more songs to Talk Show. I remember the hype form the 80’s and had all 3 albums. Talk Show is my favorite. I played it a lot my freshman year at college but not much afterwards. I revisited all three while splitting and stacking wood this week and the 1st and 3rd hold up well but Vacation, other than the title track is really bad.
I always wondered what happened to them and now I know. They had a hit song that propelled them to fame being at the right place at the right time. They partied their time in the spotlight away and never really invested themselves in the music and fought and broke up over $$$$. It never really was about the music. The documentary seems to be a plea to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame to induct them. Not sure they deserve to be in it.
