Coming back from Lake Ozonia last week we made a pilgrimage to Malone to the Alamanzo Wilder Farm, home setting of Laura Ingell Wilder’s “Farmer Boy” one of our all time favorite books.
It is pretty much on the way home and we have been there several times before. Due to Covid tours were by reservation only but we weren’t interested in that. I just wanted to sit and eat my breakfast in the shade on the land that Manzo, Royal and Eliza once trod.
Jakobi had been taking gymnastic classes on Fridays. In September she moves up a level. Here she is doing a back round-off back handspring.
My mother turned 82 on July 25th and Katie got her a cake and celebrated through the window with her as Covid cases in Montana are spiking.
This past weekend I made Colleen an Adirondack Rocking Chair for her upcoming birthday, just like the ones at the camp we were just at.
This week I have been listening to the Dire Straits musical catalog. Mark Knofler is definitely one of the best rock guitarists of all time. The music holds up well 30+ years later. His playing reminds me a bit of Jerry Garcia’s.

Speaking of Garcia I have watched “Long Strange Trip”, the 4 hour long documentary that appeared on Amazon Prime 3 years ago. Wonderful film about the history, music and influence of the Dead. It makes a very strong case for the holiness of music. Like Phil Lesh said. “Every time we played, that was Church.” Finally got around to listening to Europe ’72 which is an awesome record of the Dead’s 1972 European tour. Jerry would have been 78 this year had he not died in 1995.
