Colleen turns 44 on September 8th and she had been wanting to get to the ocean all summer so for her pre-birthday weekend she planned a trip to the Atlantic on the coast of Maine with her friend Debbie and her sons’ Hayden and Spencer
Due to Covid-19 travel restrictions we had to change campgrounds at the last minute due to a spike in cases in York County which pushed it past the 400 cases per 100,000 threshold for no quarantining when we get back.
We moved north to Cumberland County, which was under the 400 per 100,000 threshold. and found a spot at the Bayleys’ Family Camping Resort which had a last minute cancellation and we set up for the weekend at site 103 near the a bathroom and a playground.
The resort was massive with over 700 sites, most of them for massive RV’s. There were 8 pools, 4 fishing ponds, 16 hot tubs, an adult only pool, a kayak put in to a salt marsh, 2 stores, a restaurant, a bar and a tented in pavillion with a DJ on Friday, a Live Band on Saturday and a hypnotist on Sunday. The place was packed, it was like a small city. People everywhere, kids on bikes and roaming in packs, golf carts motoring the dirt roads around all the different sections of the campground.
The camping resort also offered a free trolly to the beach which we took advantage of on Saturday after we spent Friday night at the purple lit pools and hot tubs and rockin out at a distance to the DJ.
The beach was called Pine Point and the water was 62 degrees with tiny waves but it was sunny and there was little wind and we spent the whole afternoon on the beach swimming and getting some sun.
We spent Sunday at the campground swimming in the various pools and biking for ice cream and fried seafood. The place had wifi, our site had electricity and water and the kids made good use of their time at the playground and on their bikes. We were socially distanced from the other campsites and wore masks in the bathrooms and any time we went to the crowded parts of the campground. Some people wore masks but most didn’t. It was a little bit unsettling but we kept our distance and we were outdoors so we felt reasonably safe.
On Monday we stopped at another beach on our way home where I spied this driftwood dolphin hanging out at an ocean side motel
