We began my Birthday Weekend On Friday (two days after my Birthday Day) by going out to eat as a family and then walking over to Lost Nation Theater to see the play “My Mother’s Three Mothers” written my Ambiana and Jakobi’s Musical Director and U-32 Middle and High School Drama Teacher. It was very moving, a story of adoption and what it means to be family or sometimes not. It resonated a lot with Colleen’s own story of re-connecting with her birth parents Kris and Mark.
Saturday was Birthday Party Night @ the Long House on Eagle Ledge. The sauna was hot at 4pm and I statred making Pizza’s from the Ooni Pizza Oven up on the Long House Deck at 5:30PM. Guests arrived, took a sauna or not, ate some Pizza and hing out on the deck. Ambiana and Jakobi had invited friends so it was an intergenerational party. At 8Pm the dancing began to a 2hr 56m curated playlist unspooling chronologically through the years from 1976 up to the present day.
One of my favorite memories from the night will be the first song which I had debated taking off the playlist that very day because maybe it was not danceable but what the fuck I wanted to start the dance party with a Rock-the-Fuck-Out Rock Song and Ted Nugent’s “Free For All” struck the right note. So that song led off, surging foth from the soundsystem up in the loft of the long house and to my utter joy & amazement the teen-agers jumped right in and rocked-the-fuck-out with me!
I danced to every song as guests came and went and the tides of dancers ebbed and flowed until it was just me Thomas & Jakobi at 10:56PM joining Tara & Colleen at the fire on the Little Deck when the music ended.
