On the year anniversary of last year’s catastrophic flood Central Vermont got hit with 5″ of rainfall which once again flooded out over our culvert and tore up the road in front of our place.
We are used to this kind of thing and the tow Daves who live past us on the trail go their tractors and had the road repaired before noon. Meanwhile Ambiana and I using 2 shovels and a wheelbarrow fixed up our driveway which was also torn up

But between us and the start of our 2 week road-trip to Folly Beach and Falcon Ridge lay a new chasm carved by the creek near the mansion. The road crew was busy with major washouts on Hampshire Hill and Minister Brook so I spearheaded a plan to dig some ramps down both sides of the channel so we could get out.
Holly and Dave showed up with their tractors, Ambiana brought her woman-power and we heaved rocks and pushed dirt and created those ramps in about 2 hours.
One of the residents of Brown Rd in a big Ford F150 was the first one to get through and after some revisions I drove the truck across and back as we thought we might have to take the truck rather than the Rav4 on our trip. I went back home and Colleen went up to look at it and while she was there the town showed up and dropped a culvert and by 7pm they had made a quick one lane fix to enable those stuck to get in and out. Our town road crew is the best!
Montpelier was spared flooding this time but Plainfield, Waterbury and Moretown were hit hard. My co-worker Margie’s house collapsed into the river claiming her home and her cat but thankfully she survived. Rt 12 south to Montpelier was also cut in two and our route out of town was by way of County Rd.
