Sauna

We had a lovely spring weekend. On Saturday we went hiking with Sarah Lourie for her birthday along with Erika, Ollie and Mark out along the shores of the Green River Reservoir. It was fun to see it from not inside a boat. We then ate dinner at Hoagies in Morrisville, our 3rd time out to eat since Covid began and ate birthday cake out from on their picnic tables.

Sunday the ground was again clear of snow so I started work on the footings for the sauna. Colleen and I agreed on the spot across the creek off to the North of the Winter House.

I cleared logs and leaves and pulled out any vegetation with Christine helping and lined up the footings along the 8′ x 12′ perimeter of the footprint. The East side needed double blocks to be level with the single block West side but other than that it was pretty simple and quickly done.

I substituted a big rock pulled from the cleared site in place of one cinder block. Now the footings are ready to be filled with concrete but am gonna wait until I have the lumber and am ready to start the framing because if it is going to settle and move around I want it to do so with the structure already in place.

Am also working on 4 Pele themes tiler for the interior sauna wall behind the stove. They will be 12″ x 12″ and form an interconnected scene, This is the top tile, Pele’s visage above the top of Mauna Loa volcano.

Jakobi and Colleen have also been playing with clay up at the RiverArts Center in Morrisville and Jakobi is here enjoying her ice cream out a bowl she made herself!
