School began on September 8th which was also Colleen’s 44th birthday. Jakobi is still homeschooled but Ambiana made the decision to go to school full time this year. Her high school, U-32, is having both in person and remote classes. Freshman and Sophomores are in school one week then remote the next alternating with the Juniors and Seniors. She is in a pod of 15 students who all take the same in-school classes together. The pod stays in the same classroom and the only the teachers move from room to room. Lunch is in the same room and is delivered to the pod at the designated lunch time.
Since we do not have internet in our off grid homestead we considered getting satellite internet so Ambiana could keep up with her work. We had a tech come out and in order to find the satellite we would have to take down this maple. It is a big tree leaning over our shed, not a tree I would feel safe taking down so we reached out to Billy Tyrell to take it down. He did not have his saw at the time and 2 weeks passed and school started and Ambiana’s classes on line were asynchronous and she felt she could keep up with her work without the internet at our house so we pulled the plug on the tree coming down and the satellite installation. We feel good about this. We love that Maple, it is such a pretty tree and having internet at home would open a Pandora’s Box.
Meanwhile Stacey Berklan, one of Colleen’s oldest friends came out from Arizona for a visit. She spent the weekend with us and even helped butcher our two turkeys up at Holly and Sheri’s. We had a cook out on the long house deck, took her paddling on the pond and had breakfast at the Skinny Pancake in Montpelier before she left on Sunday. It was a quick visit, so quick I forgot to take a picture š but it was really nice to see her and we all got some ASU gear!
Equinox Hike
Ambiana and Jakobi slept over at Nora and Levi’s on Saturday night and Colleen and I woke up in an empty house and took advantage of the free time to go on a quick hike up one of the peaks of the Worcester Range. We chose White Rocks as Colleen had not been up it plus it was shorter and Colleen had a Tai Chi class at 3pm
Tree House Update
Last weekend I installed the Empire Heater and vent.
This weekend I insulated under the floor and laid the interior floor. All we need now is for Colleen to finish re-finishing and painting the front door so I can install it and the tree house will be done except for the exterior siding
