Berklee Musical Theater Camp for Jakobi
We started our Adventure Week by getting up at 5AM and driving Jakobi to Boston where she would spend the week at Berklee’s Musical Theater Camp rehearsing and performing in the “WICKED” ensemble.
We checked her in, got her cozy in her dorm and then walked with her to where the musical theater camp was being held. She then told us we could go so we hugged her and set off on an urban hike
The Freedom Trail
21 years ago when Colleen came to Boston to visit me as I housesat at Katie and Bob’s I took her on the Freedom Trail. We haven’t spent much time in Boston since my Mom moved to Montana in 2013 so I wanted to spend the day here and we decided to re-hike the Freedom Trail.
We walked up through the Public Garden and the Boston Commons and after lunch beside the Frog Pond we sought out the start of the Freedom Trail at the visitor center near the Park St T stop.
When I was at BU I would take dates for a hike along the Freedom Trail but we always skipped the beginning which takes you past the Massachusetts State House.
We were hiking the whole 2.5 mile trail so this time we passed by the State House on the way to the King’s Chapel Burial Ground.
We didn’t stop at a lot of the places, we were more interested in just walking the red brick line with all the other tourists but we did linger at the Boston Massacre Site before heading past Faneuil Hall and into the North End past Paul Revere’s House and the Old North Church.
We did visit the USS Constitution which was closed because it was a Monday.
Bunker Hill is the endpoint of the trail and also my favorite part of it. There is something about an obelisk that is so appealing.
Unfortunately it was also closed due to it being a Monday which was a shame as we definitely would have climbed the 256 steps to the top.
Emack & Bolio’s
After a rest we found some Blue Bikes to rent and cruised along the river to the Museum of Science where we crossed over to the Esplanade and had a lovely bike ride to Beacon St and Mass Ave where we found a docking station, parked our rides and headed up Newbury Street to Emack & Bolio’s Ice Cream for a much deserved treat!
We Spend the Night with the Mansfields
We then drove to Arlington and a park to meet up with Jennie and Josh and to watch their boys, Ollie and Rowley play in a baseball game. It was fun and they walked it off with a win! We then went back to their house where I got to see another FTY customer I’ve known for 10 years Maggie Husak who lives upstairs from them. We dined on pizza and caught up before retiring for the night in their very comfy basement!
Jennie clued us into the fact that UNCLE SAM is from Arlington!
Meanwhile in Plymouth, Vermont
Ambiana headed out on Tuesday and sent a few days with Tim and his family in Plymouth Vermont.
Bourn Pond- Stratton Pond Loop
On Tuesday we woke up early and delivered some sheet music and chips to Jakobi at Berklee. We then headed Northwest to Manchester Vermont where we did a 3 day 17 mile loop around Bourn and Stratton Pond
It was super hot when we set out climbing 1800 feet in just under 2 miles. Luckily it was an easy hike as the trail was a class 4 road to Prospect Rock

Then it was 4 leisurely miles through green forest to our camp site beside Bourn Pond.

We spent a nice night there and in the morning resumed hiking to Stratton Pond

We took a long break and relaxed and swam before moving on.
Colleen was really excited because we were now on the Catamount Trail which she loves to ski.
Storms moved in and we sought shelter under a bridge.
Our total days hike was just under 9 miles.

Meanwhile in Killington Vermont
Green Mountain Bluegrass & Roots Festival
On Thursday we hiked out an easy 2 miles and drove into Manchester to re-supply for the weekend festival. We are both volunteering and we checked in, set up camp and then started our shifts. I was at the box office scanning tickets and giving out wristbands
The festival was super fun, really good bands but not much dancing. We did rock the F out on Thursday night when the Faux Paws played the small stage but that was about it for fun communal dancing.
We had a nice camp set up and made pizza on Saturday

Fun acts were Fruit Bats, Molly Tuttle, Twisted Pine and Colleen’s favorites Big Richard
Friday and Saturday nights there were late night sets at the Lamplighter Stage which was in a meadow accessed via a beautifully lit up woodland path. There were also fires along with the musical performances.
Meanwhile on Cape Cod
Ambiana picked up Jakobi on Friday, saw her performance and they went to the Cape and stayed with my Breckenridge friend Kim and her dogs and spent a day at the beach!

On Sunday we caught a short Faux Paws set before Bonny Light Horseman
Bonny Light Horseman were why I was here. I love them. They were so good. I have been on a Anais Mitchell bender ever since U-32’s “Hadestown” musical in January!
Dinner with the Family at Killington!
The whole family came together on Sunday evening in Killington where we went to 60% discount dinner at the Killington Resort.
