Upon returning from our week long vacation in South Carolina we found our beloved cat Thomas dead on the bathroom floor. We were all devastated and felt guilt about leaving him alone for a week (we left him with plenty of food and water) but upon reflection we realized our leaving had allowed him to die alone in the home he loved rather than having to sneak off into the woods to die. We had noticed in the last month that he was different, not as peppy, sleeping a lot, meowing at all hours, no longer coming upstairs to sleep with us. Jakobi had had a premonition that he would die while we were gone and alas it was so.

Thomas was 17 years old and had spent the last 13 years with us. He was the best cat ever, never complaining as he was handled by Ambiana and Jakobi over the years. He took walks with us and always snuggled up to us. We will miss him dearly. He lay in state for 2 days as we made funeral arrangements finding him a nice spot near the creek beneath two yellow birch. Ambiana and I dug the grave and Ambiana made him a colorful tombstone.

At sunset on Sunday Jakobi carried him forth and laid him to rest in his grave upon boughs of hemlock. We each gave him a farewell caress, covered him with more hemlock boughs, filled in the grave, spread a layer of potting soil upon the grave and planted a whole bunch of catnip atop him.

A Trip To Some Where Warm…

We were supposed to go to Jamaica but Colleen tested positive for Covid 5 days before departure and even though Jamaica lifted all Covid restrictions a day before our flight our host was not comfortable with us coming so we turned to plan B and packed the car with camping and beach gear and picking up the girls after their Friday track practice headed south destination unknown. Colleen was super pumped and drove us into Virginia where at 3am she pulled into a rest area to finally sleep.

After a breakfast stop we continued South and set our sights on Myrtle Beach SC

We nabbed the last camping spot at Myrtle Beach State Park and after quickly setting up camp ran down to the beach and into the ocean!!!

The water was warm and the waver were ripping and we caught them with our bodies and boogie boards!

After a yummy tuna noodle dinner we headed out into the night for a round of miniature golf.

Visiting Aunt Patti in Charleston SC

Ambiana drove 2 hours shifts everyday of the road trip. Here she is bringing us into Charleston for a nice visit with my sister Patti.

We met for Easter Ice Cream and then Patti took us on a wonderful tour of downtown Charleston and the waterfront. In all our years visiting Patti and my Mom in Charleston we never went downtown so this was all new to us!

Hunters Island SC

After visiting Patti we drove a further 2 hours south to Hunters Island where we spent the next two nights

The beach was long and broad at low tide and fun to lie and walk upon.

It was cool and rainy the first day and sunny and hot the second. Jakobi got painfully sunburned. Ambiana and Colleen went for nice 7 mile runs through the forest and swamps.

I chilled out and read and swam and Jakobi and I played ball in the sea.

A Hotel in Myrtle Beach SC

On Tuesday we started back North as Colleen found a deal on a hotel room in Myrtle Beach so we spent a night in the lap of luxury in a hotel with 7 pools and 3 hot tubs that was right on the beach!
