The rain has eased up, there have even been sunny days and everyday the water in the rivers and resevoirs goes down a bit while the pile of flood damaged debris mounts on the sidewalks of downtown Montpelier and the low lying streets of Barre. Colleen’s 2019 RAV4 was at an auto body shop beside the river in Barre and we went in search of it last week and had to park blocks away and walk over damaged roads and bridges to the auto body shop which had been in 4 feet of floodwater. Colleen’s car had water up over the seats and is a total loss. Other than that life goes on. The Co-op and the laundry are open. Red Hen is baking bread and FTY is delivering it to families in Boston although last week a 9 year employee was fired which triggered a worker led shut down before the pick so feelings could be aired.
I have enjoyed the deeper pool at the waterfall, the floodwaters cleared out accumulated sand and stone and sticks and what was once knee deep is now chect deep. Our bunny, yes we have a bunny, got it 3 weeks ago. Well last week she had seven babies so now we have 8 bunnies. Our chickens are big ann had to be taught to leave the coop they were in there so long during the rains of June and early July.
Colleen’s birth mother, Gramma Keis & Grandpa Bill were to visit the week of the flood but did not feel comfortable driving to Worcester with the roads in such bad condition so we met them in Hanover New Hampshire, had lunch and ice cream, toured an art museum and then went out to Quechee Gorge for a short hike.
There was so much water in the gorge that it was up about 50 feet, and the river looked more like a Reservoir
Jakobi got a bunny last week and before we left for New York for the last week we discovered that the bunny had seven baby bunnies
On Wednesday last week Nanna Jan and Papa Bill; the Scahills from Webster NY whom I have known since I was 8 years old, stopped in for the afternoon and stayed for dinner. They last visited when Jakobi was a baby and we livedin the trailer. (coincidentally, it was also nine years ago that grandma, Kris, and grandpa Bill also visited us). I last saw Nana Jan & Poppa Bill in S.C. awhile ago when we were visiting Gamma and Patti with Gaelen and they came over from their South Carolinian home away from home. It was a nicebit of time spent, I’ve known them my pracrtically my entire life; family.
