We left Folly Beach and the Travii Famiy Gathering at 10am on Friday and headed north to the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival relocated to Goshen CT. It was a 16 hour drive and we took shifts with Ambiana driving through the Carolina’s, Gaelen driving through Virginia and D.C., Colleen taking us through Maryland and Delaware and me driving the homestretch through NJ, NYC and into CT. We only stopped to get gas and change drivers and relieve our bladders and we pulled into the Fairgrounds at 1:30am and set up camp in the volunteer section section to Jayme and family
We awoke after 6 hours of sleep among friends and a familiar but unfamiliar festival.
Lee-lee and Bobi
The set up was exactly like last years 1 day fest except now there were thousands of campers yet there was only ONE food vendor and maybe only TEN vendors. Ridiculous! Half the fun of the fest is cruising the vendors and food. In addition there was no contra dancing and the kids and workshop stages were inside buildings! It kind of sucked. I spoke to those in the know and they said that it was not due to Covid that there was no dancing but that it would be too much of a hassle to deal with the extra 1,000 people who would come to dance. Ridiculous.
Ambiana and Andrea
I did my volunteer shifts and endured taking my pleasure watching our kids re-connect with their friends. The highlight again was The Slambovian Circus of Dreams Saturday night headlining show with a raucous dance party in front of the stage.
Cailen, Ben, Ambiana, Jakobi, Elliot and Casey
It was a short festival but sweet regardless of the shortcomings and a good time was had by all. We sang the final song and then drove North dropping Gaelen off at home in Brattleboro and then headed home to Vermont arriving at 11:30pm.
