Art Night at U-32 High School with Ambiana

Friday Jaune 2nd was ART NIGHT at U-32 H.S. From 5:30 to 7:00PM parents and friends were invited to roam the atrium of the High School and view the art work created by the students over the course of the school year. There was painting, photography, pottery and multi-media works on display. Ambiana and her friends put on a performance of dance pieces and spoken word in the school theater. Ambiana performed three times, twice with friends and one solo! Here they are:

The Pilot Album Release Party

Ambiana spent her Senior Year as part of the Pilot Program at U-32. She took one class in the high school, a second at CCV the local community college and the rest of her time in Pilot which is a group of students from all four grades persuing independent and collaborative learning of their own design. One of their group projects was to create an album which they wrote and then recorded with renown local musician Colin McCaffrey. The album called “Turbulence” by the Pilot appeared on Bandcamp.com on Friday and will soon be on Spotify, Apple Muisc and Amazon Music. The kids held a listening party as part of ART NIGHT and performed some songs from it. Ambiana played and sang one song with Jack and one solo.

Back On The Homestead….

After many years of big projects we are getting to the little ones like stringing up a clothesline so we can hang our towels and stuff to dry on a line rather than flung over the deck chairs.

Contruction Update: The Hot Tub

Over the Winter I had plenty of time to think about the best way to re-do the Hot Tub so it does not leak and is usable. Our time in the Iceland hot pools has me determined to get it right. This weekend I stripped all the tile from the inside of the hot tub exposing the masonry board. I am going to screw the masonry boards to the bottom and sides of the hot tub. In the originbal and flawed design the masonry board was glued to the rubber wrapped hemlock board panels which made for flexible joints which the water exploited in its escape for the sea.

With the tiles removed and the masonry boards screwed down tight I will again use mortar and tape to seal the seams but this time I will add 3 layers of 4″ fiberglass tape and vinyl ester resin to the seams and then coat the entire interior of the hot tub with a mix of vinyl ester resin and 10 pounds of 1/4 inch fiberglass fibers. When fully cured I will fill the Hot Tub with water to see if it leeks. If it does I will apply more fiberglass. If it does not leak I will be so f$%&ing happy and will re-tile the interior of the hot tub.

I already tested to see if mortar will stick to the fiberglass by appling resin to the masonry board on my test model Hot Tub Layers piece . The result was a nicely formed solid 1/16″ layer of resin. I then mortared a small piece of title to the resin and it is frimly attached.

I went and saw this musical in Boston on Thursday and Ambiana went to the Montpelier H.S. Prom on Saturday June 3rd. We were invited up to Fiona’s house in Montpelier where Ambiana, Fiona, Wiki, Emma and Sophie were getting ready. It was fun to be part of the pre-prom fun and nice to see Jessie and Jenn and spend some time at their Montpelier home on the hill. Then it was down to the State House with all the other kids and parents for pictures.
