On Monday August 28th the whole family along with Mark & Sarah traveled to Boston to drop our eldest child off at the airport for their flight to London and the beginning of their nine month trip around the planet that they have been planning since they were 10.

It was a very proud moment for us, her parents, as we are both travelers ourselves, to watch them embark on their journey. We are so excited for them. It was also bittersweet as the sisters said goodbye; Jakobi has always had her older sister around and now she will be the only child at home.
We are planning on joining Ambiana & Erika in England over the Christmas break
Colleen, Jakobi & I all drove down to Woburn MA on Monday to see Ambiana & Wiki off. A month ago Sara had suggested we put them on a bus in Montpelier and I said no way and offered to drive them to the airport myself. Luckily everyone agreed that everyone going to the airport was the right thing to do…THESE ARE OUR ELDEST DAUGHTERS GOING ACROSS THE ATLANTIC FOR A LONG TIME!!!!!! Of course we are going to give them a proper send off.
We met up at the mass transit centerin Woburn at 1:15pm; the flight is on Aer Lingus at 5:45pm) in time to catch the 2 o’clock bus to Logan Airport

Wik’s bro Ollie did not make the trip but Jakobi did. She is gonna miss her siss as we all are.
At the airport we stood back, proud parents as the young ladies waited in line, dealt with the Aer Lingus agent and checked their bags. We had decided we would not trail Ambiana & Wiki to security so we spent a little while saying goodbye before Ambiana & Wiki, with their carry on bags in tow, walked off in the direction of security and their gate.
I wasn’t gonna cry until I saw Ambiana & Jakobi say their goodbyes; the love they have for each other swells my heart. Whatever our flaws as parents at least we got this right.
Two days before…Bon Voyage Party!
On Saturday August 26th we had a goodbye party for Ambiana & Wiki and Curtis came all the way from Columbus Ohio to say bon voyage bringing with him 12 PINTS OF GRAETER’S ICE CREAM!!!!!!
Heather and G came all the way from Brattleboro to say goodbye as well.
Curtis spent 3 nights in the treehouse and made friends at the party which was a huge success; lots of people, good food and a swell time had by all. Never seen so many people on the roof deck before. Mde me a little nervous as the super wet summer has rotted the boards and benches of the decks. Another bench collapsed, this time with adults upon it and thankfully again no injuries but my pride.
One Day Before…Tattoos
On Sunday August 27th Ambiana and Colleen both got tatto’os to mark the departure of Ambiana. Ambiana got a small dinosaur while Colleen got a hippo. Our friend Evan was the one who inked them. Jakobi and I went along as well as it is Ambiana’s last full day with us before her trip.
