Our WWOOFER
Brittany Brown from Ontario Canada joined us for a week of WWOOFing on our homestead. She shucked beans, helped with the clean up from taking down the big white pine, did some harvesting and winter prep in the community garden and joined us at community lunch. We learned a lot about Canada and what they use and do not use the metric system for. Use: temperature & distance Not Use: weight and lumber lengths. She was a great help and we loved having her be part of our family for a week.

Construction Update
Taking Down the Big White Pine
Our neighbor and good friend Neal Maker came by with his chainsaw and expertly dropped our 90 foot white pine which we are going to mill for the sub-floor of our long house. I was amazed by the precision of his cut and the way it fell exactly where he wanted it to.

The tree after it has been de-limbed. We gor 3/4 of a cord of wood for our sap making and winter fire circle from the branches. We also got a 1/3rd of a cord from 2 small yellow birch that came down with the tree.
Moving the Big White Pine
Our neighbor Holly came by the next week with her tractor to pull the log down into our meadow to get it ready for the sawmill which comes on Saturday Oct. 27th
It came down easy and I bucked it up with my chainsaw into 8′ and 12′ lengths.
