Summer Fun

Burlington Bike Path 2017

On the day of the eclipse we drove to Burlington and set up camp at North Beach, then we drove North to South Hero and parked our cars and got on our bikes for a 10 ile bike ride back to our camp spot on the Burlington Bikeway. We took the bike ferry and crossed the longest causeway over water for a bikepath. It was a beautiful day and we had sunset views along the way. We camped and had a fire and food and a good night then got up and biked back to ur cars. Sweet little trip with 4 kids and very fun and beautiful

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE:

Last part of Phase One was to frame in the gable ends on the east and West ends. Should have dobe this after putting up the 2 rafters on each end but did nit think of that so I had to climb a big ladder to get the sheathing on once the gables were framed in. Very Scary! For the framing I tried several different approaches: I framed a section on the floor and then fit it in in the Master Bedroom, I tried a box like framing scheme which didn’t work very well for Jakobi’s room and for Ambiana and the common room I nailed the top and bottom plates in first and then toenailed the studs, this last worked best. I got most of the sheathing on with the ladders as the east side is not as high as the West side but for the very tippy top i needed to set up some scaffolding as being on a fully extended 28′ ladder nailing in plywood sections is way to scary. The scaffold made it significantly less scary. Now I need to seal up all the gaps and then I can get to work doing the electrical wiring, building the interior walls, running the plumbing and building the mudroom deck and steps. We are not going to finish by winter so we need to work on getting the Long House ready for winter living.
