Apples and a 5K...

On a beautiful fall saturday we drove into Burlington to run a Halloween 5K at Etrhan Allen Park. There was a 1 mile kids run which Ambiana was excited to do. She ran about a third of a mile, was carried some, walked some and finished strong with a jog to overtake a little girl and finish 2nd to last! It was a beautiful course through the woods but brutal with a big uphill. I finished just under 26 minutes and Colleen just under 28 minutes.

All the kids got a medal for finishing which Ambiana insists on calling her amulet, a word she picked up from a book.

We then went to the farmer's market in Burlington and bought some veggies. There was a drum circle going and Ya rocked out to it and then played in the leaves with the other paly-in-the-leafers. Downtown burlington has a lot going on and it is on the shore of beautiful Lake Champlain.

After the farmer's market we went to neighboring Shelburne to pick apples at an orchard. Colleen and Ambiana did all the picking. We dropped in the doughnut house thinking it was the place to buy a cider doughnut but found it was the doughnut making place and we got a little demo of how a doughnut is made as well as a free doughnut because Ambiana has that effect on people!

Then it was home for dinner and Yum Apple Crisp! The leaves are all aoff the trees in our neck of Vermont but they were in full flourish on the drive to and from Burlington. Autumn is truly glorious up here in Vermont.
