Red Sox split with Twins, Lose 2 of 3 to Jays

The Sox lost 5-2 and 4-2 before winning the final regular season game against the Twins they'll play in the dome. Beckett pitched awesome in a game that saw both catchers and managers thrown out in the 7th inning. The twins were tossed after Bailey scored on a sac fly and the catcher objected and the Sox were tossed arguing balls and strikes.

The Sox lost 6-3 and 5-3 before Lester returned to form and the Sox hit 4 home runs, 2 by Youk , one each by Pedroia and Bay to lead the Sox to an 8-2 win. The Sox dropped out of 1st place though and are now 1 game behind the surging Yanks as they head to Detroit for a 3 game series.

Red Sox 6 Twins 5

We listened to this one driving from the beach at Nantasket to Erving. The Sox fell behind 1- but then roared ahead 5-1, the Twins chipped away and pap gave up another 2 run 2 out homer but this time he had a 3 run lead as Bailey hit a solo homer in the 8th so it held up and he got a save silly enough as Penny got his 5th win and the Sox won 6-3. Jacoby extended his hitting streak to 20 games.

Red Sox 12 Mets 5

Gamma, Gaelen and me had sets for this one right behind the Sox bullpen in the bleachers. Awesome seats. There was a rain delay in the middle of the 1st inning as a thunderstorm came through with lightening, thunder and hail and a mad dash for cover by the fans. Ambiana was with us for the 1st inning and she took shelter beneath my poncho and saved the cell phone but it was too much for her and Mommy came and got her before play resumed. The Mets went up 1-0 on a homer but the Sox came right back with a 3 run blast by Mikey Lowell.

It was intermittent sun and clouds the rest of the game. There were lots of Mets fans in the park which made for fun chants back and forth between the fans. The bleachers sure are different now that tickets are $26. When thery were $3 you had not so many beautiful people out there, but more real fans.

The Mets went up 5-3 as Wake was not on his game but the Sox came back with 3 runs in the 5th, 2 in the 6th and 4 in the 7th when Youk busted a 3 run homer making up for the one that was ruled foul by instant replay. We had a blast out there in right field. Great birthday game as the Sox moveed into 1st place for the first time since last July! Thanks for the homers Youk and Lowell!!!

Youk's 3 run blast!!!!

Red Sox drop 1st two games to Mets

The Sox lost Friday 5-3 in Dice-K's return to the mound, Tek hit a homer but it was not enough as Santana dominated. On Saturday Josh Beckett pitched awesome but the Sox only managed 2 runs, both in the 1st and then Pap came on, walked Sheffield then struck out the next two batters but on his very next pitch gave up a homer which had to be reviewed to be verified. And then the Sox came up short in the bottom of the 9th as the Yanks have been hoggin all the walk-off wins lately. Heartbreaker but hey it happens. We watched this one at Katie and Bob's and saw the last inning at Gamma's. Tommorrow we go the to game on my birthday.

Red Sox Sweep Jays

The Red Sox swept the Blue Jays winning 5-1 behind excellent pitching by Jon Lester and a 2 run homer by Jason Bay in the 1st inning. My sister Katie, her husband Bob and their daughter Maya were at the game with Gamma. The Sox are now 1/2 a game out of first place.

Red Sox 8 Blue Jays 3

David Ortiz broke the longest homer drought of his career with a 2 run shot to center field in the 5th inning last night as the Sox went deep 4 times with homers by J Bay,Mike Lowell and the 2nd of 2 homers hit by Tek.

The crowd was all over Papi. Penny got his 4th win, Ellsbury exteneded his hitting streak to 15 gams and the Sox are now only 1.5 games behind the Jays with one more to play!

Sox 3-4 on West Coast Road Trip

The Sox lost 3-2 to Seattle on an error by Nick Green and lousy hitting with runners in scoring position to finish 2-4 on their West coast swing. After winning 4-3 on Tuesday in Anaheim to open the trip the Sox lost 3 in row (8-4 & 5-4 to the Angels, 5-4 to Seattle) before beating the Mariners 5-3 on Saturday on 3 home runs by Bay Tek and Bailey and good pitching from Josh Beckett. The Sox are now 3 back of Toronto who come to Fenway on Tuesday for a 3 game series. I listened to all the games and during two of them took a break to watch Star Trek with the Sox up 4-0 in both games only to find them losing when I turned the game back on :(

Red Sox 4 Angels 3

I stayed up late listening to the Sox beat the Angels! Drew hit a homer to tie the game 1-1 as I was driving h0me from work, then they fell behind 3-1 but tied it up in the 8th and then went ahead on a single by Drew who then scored from 1st on Teks gapshot to the wall double. Pap almost got a 1-2-3 inning for his 8th save fanning Tori Hunter for the win.

Red Sox take 2 of 3 from Rays

The red Sox finally won a series against the Rays taking 2 of 3 over the weekend at Fenway. The Sox won Friday 7-3 behind a good outing from Brad Penny and another 6th inning 3 run homer by Jason Bay. Manny who??? That trade in the light of manny's 50game suspension is the best move the Sox could have made last year.

Saturday the Sox got clobbered 14-5 as Lester continues to struggle. I only listened to the beginning of this one as we were at a Beltain Celebration in Brookfield.

Sunday: Beckett vs. Garza, neither pitcher got a decision as it was tied 3-3 when both pitchers left the game. Ortiz almost hit one out to left in the bottom of the 8th and ended up on 2nd base, advanced to third on a wild pitch and came home on Jason Bay's RBI double off the Wall. Bay now has 34 RBI, 2nd in the AL. Pap got into his usual jam in the 9th with runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs but jams only seem to ratchet up his game as he struck out Pena, Upton and Crawford to seal the victory and record his 8th save. He also walked his 8th batter matching his season total from last year.

Red Sox 4 Rays 3

Red Sox split 2 games with Indians

The Red Sox split the 2 game series with the Indians. After getting beat 9-2 after leading 2-0 on Tuesday when the Sox bats could not get going, they exploded during the 6th inning of thursdays game plating 12 runners before recording an out. This set an American Leauge record for most runs before recording an out and tied the Major Leauge record. The Sox entered the 6th behind 3-1 and by the time the dust cleared it was 13-3 with the Sox in the lead.

Jason Bay lead the way with a 3 run homer and 5 RBIs. Rocco Baldell, back from the DL made a great catch in center (Jacoby was sitting out with a sore hamstring for the 2nd straight game) and also knocked in a few runs.

Wake is now 4-1 and the ace of the Red Sox

Red Sox Sweep Yankees Again!

The Red Sox swept the Yankees again this time at the new Yankee Stadium. Lester pitched the first game which was delayed over 2 hours due to rain. The Sox went up 4-0 scoring in each of the first 4 innings before the Yankees mounted a comeback of sorts coming within 1 run, 4-3 in the 5th.

Bay stroked a 2 run homer in the 7th and Paplebon got his 7th save despite loading the bases in the 9th. This one ended at 1:10am

Red Sox 6 Yankees 4

In the 2nd game the Sox scored 4 times before recording an out in the 1st, 3 runs coming on Jason bay's 3 run homer. Chamberlain mowed them down after that striking out 12 and Johnny Damon kept it close with a 3 run homer in the 3rd but the Sox pulled away scoring twice in the 8th and adding one more in the 9th for a 7-3 win with Beckett getting the victory despite being outpitched by Joba

Red Sox Lose 3 of 4 from Rays

The Red Sox lost 3 of 4 to the Rays over the weekend. It pains me to listen to these games in Tampa as the Sox always seem to come up short. Beckett lost the 1st game a due to one bad inning before it unraveled completely in the 13-0 loss. Masterson had a bad inning in the 2nd game after the Sox went up 2-0 and lost 6-2. Wakefield came through in game 3 as the the Sox bats and they won 10-6 but Sunday they returned to their losing ways at the Trop. Up 1-0 they lost the lead and despite Youk's 2 run homer in the 8th could not complete the comeback and lost 5-3. Carl Crawford stole 6 bases and tied a modern day major leauge record. The Sox are in 2nd two games back of Toronto.
