FULL MOON and HALLOWEEN!!!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.mochiandcolleen.com\/images\/2020\/OCTOBER\/pumpkin1.JPG\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2228\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video aligncenter\"><video controls src=\"http:\/\/www.mochiandcolleen.com\/images\/2020\/OCTOBER\/pumpkin.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2>&#8230;and now the Hobart Loop Hike!!!!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.mochiandcolleen.com\/images\/2020\/OCTOBER\/map.JPG\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2225\"\/><figcaption><strong>Where the loop stats on the left <br>near the road is our homestead<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>We live at the foot of Hobart Mountain. When I am out on the pond I can see it rising up behind our homestead. I thought we hiked up it on my birthday but when I went beck up 2 weeks ago I saw another mountain looming off to the North which struck me as being Hobart so what was the mountain I was on and that we had climbed back in May.  More forays on the pond and looks at Hobart and the ridge to the South of it convinced me we were not on Hobart but the ridge to the South did not square with how I saw our place in space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.mochiandcolleen.com\/images\/2020\/OCTOBER\/hike1.JPG\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2215\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>So this past Sunday Colleen and I set out to climb both mountains and determine which was which. We had our fancy topo map app that would track our progress on a map on the phone ( the 1st image in this post), a pair of binoculars and a beautiful autumn afternoon. The first time we climbed Hobart several years ago we followed the creek up so that it what we did this time and it indeed took us to the summit of Hobart and not the mountain I had climbed 2weeks ago and back in May.  From the top of Hobart we could see that unnamed mountain to the South of us. This was the mountain we had climbed several years ago, we found the mason jar with the notebook in it that we could not find on the other as it was not Hobart. After a look through the binoculars we headed down the south face across the short saddle and up the unnamed mountain to where I had been 2 weeks ago. I actually prefer this mountain top to Hobart as it hasa more open sunny summit and a more unobstructed view to the south.  So is this the ridge to the right of Hobart that I see from the pond?  The app on our phone suggests it is as it shows our homestead being more to the northwest than I would have guessed which is why when we descended back in May we came out a mile south of our place on Eagle Ledge Rd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.mochiandcolleen.com\/images\/2020\/OCTOBER\/rocks.JPG\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2216\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>After some soaking in the sun and views we descended the south face along a beautiful rocky spine emerges from the ridge line. The forest here is old growth with big beautiful trees spaced far apart with little to no undergrowth and a gorgeous views of the Worcester Range and the Green Mountains<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.mochiandcolleen.com\/images\/2020\/OCTOBER\/view1.JPG\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2217\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>We found some beautiful flat spots on the slope as we traversed that we want to come back to and camp at this winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.mochiandcolleen.com\/images\/2020\/OCTOBER\/slab.JPG\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2220\"\/><figcaption><strong>Colleen on a slab that fell sometime ago  from the outcropping above her<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.mochiandcolleen.com\/images\/2020\/OCTOBER\/view2.JPG\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2218\"\/><figcaption><strong>On the slope of the Unnamed Mt above our homestead<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.mochiandcolleen.com\/images\/2020\/OCTOBER\/nest.JPG\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2221\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>It was a sweet hike, 3.5 miles, 1064 feet of elevation gain and descent, Hobart is 2160ft tall, the Unnamed MT is 1916ft tall.  Colleen found a sweet nest to chill in for a moment on the descent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.mochiandcolleen.com\/images\/2020\/OCTOBER\/hobart.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2223\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Once down I paddled out on the pond and re-oriented myself to the view. I have always wondered what that unnamed mountain was and had wanted to climb it at some point and I now realized I have been up it 3 times. We traversed to the NW when coming down and that brought us right to the NE corner of our land which now as I look at it makes perfect sense. Now when looking at these two mountains I know them, have been on top of them and know how to find my way back home from them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center\">1st snow: October 26th 2020<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.mochiandcolleen.com\/images\/2020\/OCTOBER\/snow.JPG\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2222\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>It is stick season here in our portion of Vermont, the leaves are gone the limbs are bare Fall is over but it&#8217;s not quite Winter, it&#8217;s that in-between transition time when the light is dwindling and sunset is creeping closer to 5pm. The spring and summer projects are wrapped up, it is becoming indoor time, time to snuggle deep in the imagination as the longest night approaches. I&#8217;ve begun the Winter chore of brining in the wood and stacking it near the woodstove. We&#8217;ve had a fire going the past 3 days and snow has begun falling from the leaden sky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center\">What I&#8217;m listening to this week<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.mochiandcolleen.com\/images\/2020\/OCTOBER\/Allman-Betts.JPG\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2234\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>I came across this album in my search for the Allman Brothers catalogue and gave it a listen. It&#8217;s the son of Gregg Allman and the son of Dickey Betts who put together a band to honor the legacy of their father&#8217;s band by continuing to play the songs of the Allman Brothers but they also released an album of their own tunes and they are pretty good. Definitely in the spirit of the Allman Brothers with raging guitars and soul worn vocals. This is their first album, they just released a second one but I have not managed to find a copy of that one yet but am looking forward to when I do.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8230;but first pumpkin carving!!!!
