INDIUM

Indium (In), with an atomic weight of 114.8 and a density of 7.31 g/cm³, is a shiny silvery metal discovered in 1863 by German chemists Ferdinand Reich and Hieronymous Theodor Richter. Its name originates from the Latin word *indicum*, meaning indigo, reflecting the spectral line that revealed its presence during analysis of zinc ores. Though relatively rare, Indium comprises about 0.1 parts per million of the Earth's crust and is commonly found in trace amounts within zinc ores like sphalerite, as well as in lead, tin, and copper ores. In the Universe, it is even scarcer, with an estimated abundance of just 0.05 parts per billion by weight.
